The most common way to receive Sceptile is by choosing Treecko as starter Pokémon in Ruby / Sapphire and Omega Rubin / Alpha Saphir.Sceptile is available since 3rd generation, so it was not available in Red / Blue, Gold / Silver and Crystal.

The first Sceptile that appeared in the anime was the Sceptile of a trainer named Tyson in the episode "Shocks and Bonds". Later on Ash's Grovyle evolved to Sceptile as well. The episode "Valuable Experience for All!" revealed Sceptile's Mega Evolution.

Sceptile has it's first appearance in the Pocket Monsters SPECIAL manga chapter 305, volume 26.
There it was picked by Emerald as his final battle member for the Battle Factory challenge in "Interesting
Interactions Involving Illumise". After realizing that Sceptile was no
rental Pokémon, but a smuggled in one, he took him into his possession and used him to challenge the
Battle Pyramid, Battle Arena, Battle Palace and Battle Dome. 
In the Omega Ruby & Alpha Saphire chapter
Emerald discovers the Sceptilite which Mega Evolves Sceptile to Mega Sceptile.
Further appears Sceptile in "Pinsir Me, I Must Be Deaming", chapter 206 of the Pokémon Adventures manga and Omega Alpha Adventure 2. It also appears
in the Pokémon Battle Frontier manga in the first chapter "Enta Arrives at the Battle Frontiert!", where Rald has a Sceptile as one of his main Pokémon.
